A noted mentor and philanthropist, and mother to two sons, including NFL superstar, Donovan McNabb, is ideally suited to her new role, championing responsible sports parenting. Wilma McNabb, a former registered nurse, is executive director of the Donovan McNabb Foundation and president of the Professional Football Players Mothers' Association. Widely known to America for her starring role playing the "Team Mom" in the Campbell's Chunky Soup advertising campaign since 2002. Originally the soup giant used a faux mother who portrayed her in Chunky's ''mama's boys.'' After watching an actress play Donovan's mom, Mrs. McNabb had an epiphany, she wanted to play herself. Wilma knew all the lines, read the script, served the soup, and confidently approached the campaign agency with persistence to takeover as the real Chunky's Mom. Wilma received the call she'd been waiting for, ''I remember our agent called and said, 'they want to do something different and they want to use you,''' she said. Now, she is the only mother -- real or not -- in the campaign, which is part of Campbell's sponsorship that makes it the National Football League's official soup. ''She is very good on her feet,'' said James Caporimo, executive creative director of Young & Rubicam. ''We were a little nervous at first. But she turned out to be a star. She's very poised. And there's no question she's gotten better. She's terrific.'' Today, Wilma McNabb is thrilled when people refer to her as the Chunky mom, or if she were at a fast food restaurant they would say 'that's not Chunky.' Mrs. McNabb loves being the Chunky mom and treat Donovan's team charming and entertaining performances led to guest appearances on The Jimmy Kimmel Show and The Ellen DeGeneres Show. |
